Structure and magnetism of Fe/Si multilayers grown by ion-beam sputtering.

چکیده
Ion-beam sputtering has been used to prepare Fe/Si multilayers on a variety of substrates and over a wide range of temperatures. Small-angle x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy experiments show that the layers are heavily intermixed although a composition gradient is maintained. When the spacer layer is an amorphous iron silicide, the magnetic properties of the multilayers are similar to those of bulk Fe. When the spacer layer is a crystalline silicide with the B2 or DO3 structure, the multilayers show antiferromagnetic interlayer coupling like that observed in ferromagnet/paramagnet multilayers such as Fe/Cr and Co/Cu. Depending on the substrate type and the growth temperature, the multilayers grow in either the (011) or (001) texture. The occurrence of the antiferromagnetic interlayer coupling is dependent on the crystallinity of the iron and iron silicide layers, but does not seem to be strongly affected by the perfection of the layering or the orientation of the film. Since the B2and DO3-structure FexSi1−x compounds are known to be metallic, antiferromagnetic interlayer coupling in Fe/Si multilayers probably originates from the same quantum-well and Fermi surface effects as in Fe/Cr

Magnetic Properties of Epitaxial and Polycrystalline Fe/Si Multilayers
Fe/Si multilayers with antiferromagnetic interlayer coupling have been grown via ion-beam sputtering on both glass and single-crystal substrates. High-angle x-ray diffraction measurements show that both sets of films have narrow Fe peaks, implying a large crystallite size and crystalline iron silicide spacer layers. Low-angle x-ray diffraction measurements show that films grown on glass have ro...
متن کاملSTRUCTURE AND MAGNETISM OF Fe/Al MULTILAYERED FILMS BY ION BEAM SPUTTERING METHOD
The crystal structure and magnetic properties of Fe/AI multilayered films prepared using the ion beam sputtering method have been investigated. The crystallite orientation and magnetism of Fe layers were found to depend significantly on A1 layer thickness. This resutt may be caused by the crystallographic interaction between Fe and A1 layers.

High-resolution electrical resistivity measurements (r ,dr/dT) were performed in three series of @Fe30ÅCrtÅ# multilayers in the temperature range 15–300 K, both at zero and under saturation magnetic field. The different series were prepared by MBE on MgO ~100! substrates, by sputtering on MgO ~100! substrates, and by sputtering on Si ~100! substrates. In the temperature range 15 K& T , 50 Kwe a...
متن کاملEffect of Thickness on Structural and Morphological Properties of AlN Films Prepared Using Single Ion Beam Sputtering
Aluminum nitride (AlN) thin films have potential applications in microelectronic and optoelectronic devices. In this study, AlN thin films with different thicknesses were deposited on silicon substrate by single ion beam sputtering method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra revealed that the structure of films with thickness of - nm was amorphous, while the polycrystalline hexagonal AlN with a...

Discontinuous metal}insulator multilayers [Co Fe (t)/Al O (3 nm)] are prepared by ion-beam sputtering and investigated by SQUID magnetometry and AC susceptometry. For 1.0)t)1.6 nm, two coexisting subsystems of dipolar coupled nanoparticles are encountered. While a spin-glass-like freezing particulate fraction dominates at t"1.0 nm, a percolating dipolar ferromagnetic fraction becomes increasing...
